Tractor Tire Award of the Week - Scream 4

Have you ever watched a trailer and had that one scene, that one shot that made you go "Wow, that was cool!"? Or maybe there was something you saw that stuck with you, something that for some reason was in the back of your head and despite how insignificant it was you were waiting for it to show up in the final cut of the film. But when you watched the movie that scene was nowhere to be found or has been altered in a significant way. Well, that is what the Tractor Tire Award of the Week is all about. We try to track down those scenes that didn't make it into the final version of the film and make sense of them. Where in the film was it supposed to be? Why might it have been cut? Why has it been changed? We may not always have the answers for you but at least you will have your piece of mind and know that you aren't crazy. So, this weeks award goes to Scream 4!

Was this supposed to resemble the fountain scene in the first film?

What we have her ladies and gentlemen is an honest to goodness deleted scene and a lengthy one at that from what I can tell. First let's discuss what the scene is, this is without a doubt a complete recreation of the fountain scene from the first film where Sydney, Billy, Stu and Randy among others gathered to hypothesize who the murderer may be. Whereas this scene seems to be a conversation with our new cast of characters trying to determine who may and may not die this time around. See the below dialog exchanges that take place during this cut scene.

Olivia: "It's time for someone new to die".
Charlie: "You can't kill Sydney, she's victim royalty".
Olivia: "Not true, Syd's expendable".
Charlie: "Point Taken"

How about a different angle from the same scene.

Where the scene fits into the overall film is actually very easy to deduce after you have seen it. It is clearly after the opening moments where the first murder occurs. And based off who is present in the scene tells us that it definitely takes place before the next murder occurs. Most likely it was to take place directly after all the students learned of the death of their fellow classmate (once again, just like the original Scream). Why was it cut though...my two cents on that is maybe it was a little too much of characters sitting around trying to determine who was going to get killed and who wasn't. Personally I would have liked to have it in there because we got so little time to know these characters at all and a few extra minutes with them may have helped a little bit.

Hmmm...don't seem to remember seeing this either.
OK here, this one I have no idea about where it was supposed to be. Well, that is kind of a lie I guess. If I had to place this little cut moment it would have to be at the first murder scene that Sydney is present at. Does it really matter though...not really. In all honesty these are the scenes that don't phase me one little bit because ultimately there doesn't appear to be anything to it. Just a message scratched on the wall. No loss would be my guess.

Here is one from an attack that actually occurs off screen.

Now this is an interesting one. At first I couldn't even place the actress in the shot but after some thought I think I know where this is from. There is an attack early on in the film where it is done off screen for the most part and we only hear it over the phone. That scene is supposed to make us think or trick us into thinking that somebody is playing a prank on another. Let's be real here though, anybody that saw the film new it was real by that point. Anyways, I find this one interesting just because apparently there was footage of this character being killed. Strange but once again not really that big a deal. Ultimately it was the big one up above there that bothered me the most. It was in the trailer for two separate scenes on top of the fact that the dialog from that scene was used as well. It is gonna take a massive edit by a future film to win out of this one, only time will tell though.
