Tractor Tire Award of the Week - PotC: On Stranger Tides

Have you ever watched a trailer and had that one scene, that one shot that made you go "Wow, that was cool!"? Or maybe there was something you saw that stuck with you, something that for some reason was in the back of your head and despite how insignificant it was you were waiting for it to show up in the final cut of the film. But when you watched the movie that scene was nowhere to be found or has been altered in a significant way. Well, that is what the Tractor Tire Award of the Week is all about. We try to track down those scenes that didn't make it into the final version of the film and make sense of them. Where in the film was it supposed to be? Why might it have been cut? Why has it been changed? We may not always have the answers for you but at least you will have your piece of mind and know that you aren't crazy. So, this weeks award goes to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides!

Apparently Captain Jack isn't popular with mermaids.

I didn't even think about it until I saw it in the trailer but what I would consider to be a signature moment for Captain Jack Sparrow in all three of the previous films was apparently cut from the fourth film. Anybody familiar with the other films knows that Jack has a reputation with the ladies, especially those that he has cut and run from in the past. And when he meets up with them again they always give him a slap across the face and we get a befuddled look towards us as he remarks, "I don't think I deserved that". From the looks of it he has a reputation with the mermaid ladies as well and instead of trying to eat him, one of them gives him a good slap for whatever indiscretion he had done to the lass. If I had to place it in the film itself it would most likely come directly after the captain does his swan dive out of the light house and into the water below. It looks as though before all the mermaids run off there is one that needed to give Jack a little present. I can't say that the scene is missed as it was already running long but I kind of wish it was kept in considering how little of the old Jack Sparrow we got in the finished cut. Here's hoping for a director's cut (although unlikely due to none of the other films getting one).

A signature Jack Sparrow moment that was cut.

When do you think a Directors Cut of Pirates 4 will or would be released on Blu Ray ?

I bet that Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides will be re-released on Blu Ray in either 2015 or 2016, with Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes, because of when Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean At world's End were re-released on Blu Ray in 2011, after they original Blu Ray releases in 2006 and 2007.

They will do a double dip on it whenever the next Pirates movie comes out I suspect. I haven't seen the Blu-ray yet though, are there no deleted scenes on it?

The 2-Disc Blu Ray pack of Pirates 4 does not have any of the Deleted and Extended Scenes on it, but the 5-Disc Blu Ray pack of Pirates 4 has 3 of the Deleted Scenes and 2 Extended Scenes on it. But, there are 2 Deleted Scenes from Pirates 4, that were not put on the 5-Disc Blu Ray pack, meaning the Deleted Scene shown in the images with the article above, which is the Mermaid Slapping Jack Sparrow Deleted Scene, that part would of happened in Pirates 4 right after Jack Sparrow jumps from the light house into the sea, where a Mermaid would come up to him while they are both on the surface of the water and then he sees her and then he says her name, and then she slaps him on the face. The other Deleted Scene that wasn't put on the 5-Disc Blu Ray pack, was a Deleted Scene where Blackbeard offers a Doubloon Coin to the character in Pirates 4 named Philip.

Do you think they will re-release Pirates 4 with the Mermaid Slapping Jack Sparrow Deleted Scene and the Blackbeard Offering a Doubloon to the Queen Anne's Revenge Crew Deleted Scene, included as Never Before Seen Deleted Scene or Newly Released Deleted Scenes when Pirates of the Caribbean 5 come to theaters in the Middle of 2013, or when Pirates of the Caribbean 5 comes out on Blu Ray in Late 2013?

I recently found out that there are about 15 Unreleased Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides, and the Mermaid Slapping Jack Sparrow Deleted Scene is of course one of them :) . Also, I came up with a major realization about when Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides will be re-released on Blu-ray with those 15 Unreleased Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes. The release date that i realized that Disney (The Studio) will most likely re-release it on Blu-ray with those Unreleased Never Before Seen Deleted Scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides including the Mermaid Slapping Jack Sparrow, is on the 10th anniversary of Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl's theatrical release, that happens to fall on a Tuesday in 2013, which happens to be on the date "Tuesday July 9th, 2013" :) . I have a pretty good feeling that Diseny will see the significance in that "Special Date" :) .
