Tractor Tire Award of the Week - Snow White & The Huntsman

Have you ever watched a trailer and had that one scene, that one shot that made you go "Wow, that was cool!"? Or maybe there was something you saw that stuck with you, something that for some reason was in the back of your head and despite how insignificant it was you were waiting for it to show up in the final cut of the film. But when you watched the movie that scene was nowhere to be found or has been altered in a significant way. Well, that is what the Tractor Tire Award of the Week is all about. We try to track down those scenes that didn't make it into the final version of the film and make sense of them. Where in the film was it supposed to be? Why might it have been cut? Why has it been changed? We may not always have the answers for you but at least you will have your piece of mind and know that you aren't crazy. So, this weeks award goes to Snow White & The Huntsman!

Cut Scene #1-A
Ravenna in the dark forest...?

Cut Scene #1-A
Apparently so.

So, in the actual film there is a lot of talk about people not wanting to enter the dark forest for a number of reasons. One of those people just happens to be the evil Queen Ravenna who even goes so far as to hire the huntsman to go in there for her. However, as this quick scene reveals, apparently she does eventually head into the forest herself. I can only assume this comes shortly before the scene where she confronts Snow White and gives her the apple, which would make sense given that we are never shown how she found Snow White in the first place. This is clearly a cut scene where she begins tracking her and her tracking starts in the dark forest. I actually would have preferred this to remain in the final cut of the film, mainly because it would have given us more time with the Queen who was the more interesting of the two and it would have helped explain away a rather strange coincidence of how she just so happened to find Snow White with little to no trouble.

Alternate Scene #1
I don't remember that apple there before...

This one reeks of just throwing something in there to make people remember this is based off the fairy tale Snow White. So, what is different that makes this an alternate scene? Well, first of all this scene does happen, Snow White does eat the apple, she does fall on to the snow unconscious but the difference is that apple. In the final cut of the film she bites into the apple and it immediately dissolves in her hand and when she falls to the ground there is of course no apple there. Even the shot directly after that where the birds are circling her is not exactly in the final cut. So, chalk this one up to just a silly marketing ploy to remind people what is so obvious just by the title, that this is a Snow White story.

Cut Scene #2
Now this one is truly perplexing.

Here is a scene that truly reminds me why I started doing these write-ups. In the actually film we see Snow White befriend the bridge troll but after he runs away we never see him again. One of my biggest complaints about the actual film is how it never does anything with this supposed power of Snow White. Her ability to commune with nature is never fully go into and I would like to think that this scene is a lost remnant of a possible story arc where she calls upon her friends in the forest to help battle the queen. This shot looks as though she is meeting with the troll and actually communicating with it, which would have been pretty cool. My other more realistic side wants to say this was a manufactured shot (nothing happens in it) to sort of evoke the atmosphere they were going for with the film. This shot just saddens me though because everything it says with that one image is what Snow White & The Huntsman SHOULD have been.
