The Official Home and Theater Podcast

ANNOUNCEMENT
This is the final episode of the Home & Theater Podcast. Starting next week we will be transferring over to our brand new podcast, The LRA Show which is part of our site wide name change to LightsRemoteAction.com. The official name change for the site will take place this coming weekend and the new show will start the beginning of next week with our discussion for Zack Snyder's Suckerpunch.

Episode 25: Rubber & Paul

This is it, our final episode of the Home & Theater podcast has arrived. Starting next week we are transferring over to our new home at The LRA Show, which is the official podcast for LightsRemoteAction.com.  But I think we are going out on a high note with the two films we have for you this week. Once again we are joined by Brian Salazar from The SEC and we start with a look at the new Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy "Paul" where we liked it overall but don't think it lived up to the pedigree of their past films. Then we move into a discussion for Quentin Dupieux's "Rubber", a film about a killer tire that goes on a murderous rampage through a small desert town. I think this is probably the most divisive film we have ever talked about with feelings ranging from best film of the year to complete slack jawed boredom and disbelief. One thing is for sure though, none of us have ever seen anything quite like it. Featured music this week is from the "Rubber" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode Time Codes:

Miscellaneous discussions           - 00:01:20
Paul                                           - 00:07:25
Rubber                                        - 00:23:20

 ANNOUNCEMENT
The Home & Theater Podcast will be ending it's 8 month run in the coming weeks as we transfer over to our brand new podcast which we will have more details on in the next couple of weeks leading up to its debut episode. So stay tuned and most importantly keep listening so that you aren't left behind when the transition happens. And of course thank you all for your continued support of the show.

Episode 25:
Battle Los Angeles, Rango & White Dog

We are back after an unexpected week off and boy do we have some stuff to cover. We welcome back a loyal supporter, contributor and friend of the show Brian Salazar of The SEC this week as well. I start us off with some quick comments on both "The Adjustment Bureau" and "Red Riding Hood". Miguel goes into the benefits and some of the drawbacks to the new multimedia set-top Roku Box. After that I gush about my love for just about everything "Rango" related. Miguel discovers many of the underlying messages in the recent Criterion release "White Dog". Then the three of us jump into the fight for L.A. with our main discussion for the new alien invasion war film "Battle: Los Angeles". Featured music this week is from the "Rango" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 24: The King's Speech, Drive Angry 3D and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room

I apologize up front for the length of this episode. We got a little carried away with out 2011 Oscars discussion. In case you don't care about what we had to say I have graciously included a time code at the end of this for you if you just want to skip around the episode. In any case, the first film up is the new Nicolas Cage car action fetish flick "Drive Angry" which may lead to some people leaving the theater angry. Miguel goes digging in our country's tainted history with the documentary "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room". We wrap things up with a long overdue look at the 2011 Oscar award winner for best film of the year "The King's Speech" where we come to the conclusion that maybe we were a little too harsh on it before. Featured music is from the films "Drive Angry" and "The King's Speech".

Episode Time Codes:

2011 Oscar Talk        - 00:02:30
Drive Angry 3D          - 00:46:00
Enron Documentary   - 01:02:55
The King's Speech     - 01:12:30

Episode 23: Unknown, 2 Days In Paris & Paranormal Activity 2

We are slowly leaving the early year dumping grounds and starting to get some decent popcorn fare finally and this past week certainly helps carry that flag. After a quick discussion on the rules for television show laugh tracks I start us off with "Paranormal Activity 2" and talk about how scary a door opening by itself can be. Miguel discovers the criminally underused and talented Julie Delpy in the romantic comedy "2 Days in Paris". We finish off with a mystery laden discussion for the new Liam "Taken" Neeson film "Unknown" where we realize that money truly does grow on trees or at least in a coma patient's pocket. Featured music this week is from the "2 Days in Paris" soundtrack and Julie Delpy's self titled album "Julie Delpy".

Episode 22: Unstoppable, Never Let Me Go & The Runaways

This weeks episode is unbelievable. I start things off with showing some love for the unarguably fantastic "Never Let Me Go" and how it depicts the life of a clone destined to be a human organ donor. The unclassifiable Miguel talks about "The Runaways" and how great it is to see Dakota Fanning mature into a full blown adult actress. Finally we see if "Unstoppable" is as undeniably great as everyone seems to think it is. Here's a hint, we thought it was an unforgivable disaster. This weeks music is from the unquestionably impressive "The Runaways" & "Never Let Me Go" motion picture soundtracks.

Episode 21: True Grit, Jack Goes Boating & Blackballed

This week we look at the stage play turned independent film "Jack Goes Boating" which is also noteworthy for being Philip Seymour Hoffman's directorial debut. Next up is Rob Corddry's paintball Mockumentary "Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story". Our final and main discussion is for the Coen brothers 2010 western remake "True Grit" with both Miguel and myself agree that newcomer Hailee Steinfeld steals the show from everyone involved. Featured music this week is from the "True Grit" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 20: Green Zone, The Mechanic, & The Parking Lot Movie

This week we start out going over the Oscar nominations as we try our hardest to make sense of what was nominated and what wasn't while also showing as little respect as possible for "The King's Speech". From there I talk about the new Jason Statham film "The Mechanic" and how he does much more than just repair cars. Miguel goes into documentary mode with "The Parking Lot Movie" as I interject with some of my own customer service horror stories. We wrap things up with a look at the 2010 Paul Greengrass Iraq war film "Green Zone" starring Matt Damon. While neither of us disliked it we did take issue with the timing of its release and how its message isn't really all that necessary. Featured music this week is from "The Mechanic" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 19: The Fighter, The Expendables, & Brothers

This week we settle into our discussions rather quickly with Miguel talking about the film "Brothers" and how it stole the plot from Michael Bay's epic masterpiece Pearl Harbor. I give my two cents on how the action movie to end all action movies, "The Expendables" couldn't live up to my 20 years worth of expectations. Finally we end on "The Fighter" and talk about how amazing Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Melissa Leo performances were in it...oh and Mark Wahlberg was in it to I think. Featured music this week is from "Guns N Roses" and "Shinedown", both of which were featured in the "Expendables" trailer.

Episode 18: The Green Hornet & Exit Through The Gift Shop

This week we start off with giving our opinions on not just the Golden Globe winners but the award show itself. From there I talk about the romantic comedy "Letters To Juliet", Miguel gives his impressions on the documentary "Exit Through The Gift Shop" and we end with a discussion on the new super hero/action film "The Green Hornet". Music featured this week would be from the motion picture soundtrack to "The Green Hornet" but apparently that doesn't exist. In any case, music this week is from the artists "Coolio" & "Jay Chou" which are both featured in the film. Enjoy!

Episode 17: Black Swan, Centurion, plus more...

Welcome to our first proper show of the new year. We get right back into the swing of things while also starting up our slightly new format. We give a quick honorable mention to the brilliantly violent 2000 Japanese film "Battle Royale" for the best of the past decade awards. Miguel gives his thoughts on "Outsourced" and how it outclasses its TV brethren. I talk about "Black Swan" and how amazing Natalie Portman is in it but also how I just didn't give a dam about her character. We wrap it up with both of us giving our thoughts on the Roman action film "Centurion" and how much of a mess it is. Music featured is from the "Black Swan" original motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 16: Top films from 2000 - 2010

We start 2011 out with a reflection on some of our favorite films that came over the past ten years. Brian Salazar joins us once again as we go down our lists and realize that there really were more good films than bad ones after all. Give it a listen to find out what good ones came out ahead of the bad ones and how the bad ones only made the good ones that much better and why the bad ones....ah hell, to get the joke you gotta listen to the show and then come back so it makes some sort of sense. So what are you waiting for...get to it! Music featured this week is from the following motion picture soundtracks: "Star Trek", "Moulin Rouge", "Wall E", and finally "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers".

Episode 15: Tron Legacy

Welcome to our end of the year finale where we have an epic discussion on the new film and sequel "Tron: Legacy"! We are once again joined by friend and guest Brian Salazar as we talk shop on one of the biggest films of this holiday season. Was it worth the wait? Did it deliver what it promised? And most importantly did it live up to the legacy of the original film? Come on in and find out the answers to those questions and more. Featured music is from the "Tron: Legacy" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 14: Fair Game, Rare Exports, plus more...

This week we start off discussing the TV series "Lost" and how its ending proves that it never mattered who lived or died and we talk briefly about the series "The Walking Dead". Then we are full steam ahead with Miguel wishing "Shrek 4" really was the final chapter and how "Hot Tub Time Machine" failied to light that 80's nostalgia fire for him. I talk about the new Evil Santa film from Finland "Rare Exports" and how much the new Doug Liman film "Fair Game" emotionally effected me. Featured music this week is from the "Hot Tub Time Machine" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 13: Harry Potter 7, Repomen, plus more...

This week we start out with me giving a public service announcement to stay far far away from "The Human Centipede". After that it is a quick look at the work of the late Leslie Nielsen and then we are back to business as usual. Miguel discovers the true brilliance of Danny Mcbride in "Land of the Lost" and makes sure he is up to date with his bills when he talks about "Repomen". I discuss how much darn fun the Korean western "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" is and we wrap things up with a look at the second to last film in the series "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1". Featured music is from the "Harry Potter 7 Part 1" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 12: The Last Airbender

Turkey of the Year!

Welcome to our very first Thanksgiving Turkey of the Year episode!  We are joined this week by special guest Brian Salazar as we carve up the biggest celluloid travesty we saw all year like a Thanksgiving turkey. And that film would be M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender", based off the hit Nickelodeon animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender".  So get ready, because all you will find here is a trifecta of disappointment, dismemberment, and overall displeasure for M. Night's stillborn creation. Featured music is from the "Last Airbender" motion picture soundtrack.

Episode 11: 127 Hours, Skyline, plus more...

This was a severely unbalanced week for me. I was able to see Danny Boyle's newest film "127 Hours" which was amazing and the new alien invasion film "Skyline" which was amazingly bad. Miguel hits a double with two sports related films which includes the 1984 classic "The Natural" and the more recent film "Big Fan". Featured music is from the "127 Hours" soundtrack.

Episode 10: Monsters, MacGruber, plus more...

This week Miguel talks a little about how the film "I Need That Record" attempts to document the fall of the record industry and just how hilarious "MacGruber" actually is. I finally saw "Get Him to the Greek" and was pleasantly surprised by it and we wrap things up with a discussion on the new alien film "Monsters". Featured music is from the "Get Him to the Greek" and "MacGruber" motion picture soundtracks.
